Practice what you preach.

March 1, 2021

“Here is a rule to remember in future, when anything tempts you to feel bitter: not "This is misfortune," but "To bear this worthily is good fortune.” - Marcus Aurelius

We teach this to our children in simpler terms, reframing a negative event into a learning opportunity or helping them move forward from a setback. Something like: “I know that’s not what you had hoped would happen, but what can you learn from this?” or “You’ll just be more prepared next time.” But it’s a reminder we could use as well. Today, when something breaks or doesn’t go your way, don’t complain or wallow in self-pity. Bear it worthily. Use it as an opportunity to show patience and self-restraint. Consider it a chance to practice what you preach.
