Why Pretty Blue Fly?
Pretty Blue Fly describes the moment my toddler and I simultaneously saw an insect. I was preoccupied — running through a mental to-do list and planning for the next task, the next meal, the next day. To me, the insect was a buzzing annoyance and I didn't give it another thought. My toddler, however, stopped what he was doing to look closer before smiling and saying, "what a pretty blue fly."
The story serves as a personal reminder to pull myself out of auto-pilot and be more present. I don’t want to miss the “pretty blue fly” moments in life because I overlooked them or failed to see their beauty.
Since that day, I’ve searched for the best way to incorporate more mindfulness into my daily routine. Though my husband helps me balance the parenting load, I don't have time for hour-long yoga sessions; frequent, uninterrupted mediation time; or many of the other traditional methods for cultivating calm, focus, and clarity. I was looking for something more realistic and sustainable. The result is an easy way to pursue mindfulness so you can appreciate the “pretty blue fly” moments when they happen in your own life.
